LA MIRADA, Calif. --- For the second time in a week, the Biola men's basketball team defeated Holy Names by a 75-68 score, this time downing the Hawks in the Eagles' home opener Friday night at Chase Gymnasium.
With the win, Biola improves to 3-0 on the season while dropping Holy Names to 0-3 overall.
The Eagles were led by senior Matt Emadi, who scored 21 points---16 from the free throw stripe---and the 20 points and 12 boards of junior Danny Jones.
The two teams battled well in the first half before Holy Names slowly worked its way to a six point lead at 29-23 with 6:23 left.
However, Biola was able to chip away and took a one-point lead to the locker room thanks to a last second lay-in by senior guard Solomon Mercado.
In the second half, the Eagles broke open the game with a 15-4 run over a seven minute stretch. A deep three by Emadi stretched the lead to 15 with just over three minutes remaining in the game and settled for the 75-68 victory.
Holy Names' bench players led the way as Jonathan Kargas scored 13 points and Troy Cotton added 12.
Biola has a bit of a break, returning to action on Tuesday (Nov. 21) for the opening of conference play against San Diego Christian.
