LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola University is proud to announce the return of its men's tennis program to campus. The addition of six tennis courts will allow Biola to host matches, and the hiring of experienced men's coach Jim Emerson means the new team will be ready to start GSAC competition in the 2006-2007 academic year.

"With renewed enthusiasm for the sport of tennis and the increase in our facilities, adding the men's tennis team seemed to be the next logical step," said Dr. Dave Holmquist, Biola Athletic Director. In addition to the already completed tennis courts, a clubhouse and sunken stadium court are also scheduled for construction.

Several factors should help the men's tennis team succeed from the beginning, most notably the experience and character of its head coach.

Jim Emerson was the men's tennis coach at Biola during the program's initial run on campus and is entering his 10th year as a USPTA Certified Level I teaching professional. His resume includes stints at Whittier Christian High School, Whittier College, and the La Mirada Tennis Center.

Scholarships will be available to high caliber recruits, an added benefit for young men who are skilled in tennis and eager to experience competitive intercollegiate Christian athletics. As with the University's other sports teams, the Biola men's tennis team will strive for excellence on and off the court, in light of Biola's commitment to Christ.
