IRVINE, Calif --- After dominating play for the first 45 minutes but scoring no goals, Biola resembled Neo from the Matrix in the second half--dodging bullets left and right to force overtime.

However, the Eagles ran out of luck as No. 4 Concordia's Jared Fanning knocked home a loose ball off a corner kick with just over a minute to go in the first overtime period to give the other Eagles a 1-0 victory in the NAIA Region II First Round Playoff Game on Wednesday in Irvine.

Biola wraps up its season with a 9-6-1 overall mark while Concordia improves to 14-4-0. CUI will host Vanguard in the regional semifinals on Saturday.

Things started off well for Biola, which had a number of great chances to open the scoring in the first half and outshot Concordia by a 7-3 count. However, Concordia's netminder Mike Borst made a pair of spectacular saves to keep the score level at the half.

In the second half, Concordia equaled Biola's output as the two heavyweights battled it out.

Biola's goalkeeper Ryan George continued to play well, making four saves in the second half, including a pair of great diving stops off back-to-back, point-blank shots with 10 minutes to go.

Biola got a huge break with just over a minute to go in regulation on what surely should have been called a penalty kick. A Concordia forward got tangled up with George after the two went for a loose ball in the box. With the ball just behind the pair and an empty net, the forward attempted to get up, but appeared to be pulled back down by George.

The official swallowed his whistle and allowed play to continue much to the dismay of the Concordia sideline.

George made one final miraculous save in the 97th minute to force a corner kick, which eventually led to the match-winner.

The goal broke an impressive scoreless streak by George which ended at 369:53.
