Eagles Fall 2-1 to The Master's College

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- A pair of goals in the first 20 minutes--one of which was an own goal--proved too much for Biola to overcome in a 2-1 loss at the hands of GSAC foe The Master's College Saturday night on Al Barbour Field in La Mirada.

It was a tough loss for the Eagles, who are winless in their last five matches and are now 4-4-2 overall. Biola is also without a victory in conference play and fall to 0-3-1.

The Master's (8-4-0, 2-2-0 GSAC) opened the match with heavy pressure which created a number of close calls before a recording a goal in the 16th minute.

The goal was scored an own goal after a corner kick by the Mustangs hit off a Biola player and scooted into the goal.

Just over four minutes later, The Master's netted a second goal as Katie McMannis recorded her fifth goal of the season on a free kick from just outside of the box.

Biola turned up the heat after that but was unable to create a decent scoring chance until the second half when Brandi Johannsen scored on a free kick of her own from about 25 yards out on the far side of the field.

Johannsen had another chance to tie up the match on a free kick from just outside of the box to the near side, but her shot just missed the far corner.

Overall, the Eagles outscored the Mustangs by a 14-7 count including an 8-3 edge in the second half.

Biola looks to get back on the winning side when it hosts Cal Baptist University on Tuesday (Oct. 10) at 7:00 p.m.
