Eagles Cruise to Easy 5-2 Win over San Diego Christian

EL CAJON, Calif. --- Senior J.T. Searles scored a pair of goals to lead Biola to an easy 5-2 win over San Diego Christian College in a GSAC men's soccer match Tuesday afternoon in El Cajon.

The Eagles improve to 6-2-0 overall and 2-1-0 in conference play while San Diego Christian drops to 1-9-0 and 0-3-0 in the GSAC.

Freshman Keir Mitchell opened the match with a quick strike, finding the back of the net just 3:07 into the match. Mitchell was able to get above the defense and get a flick off a corner kick.

In the 20th minute, Biola struck again as freshman Derek Friehe scored off a great through ball from senior midfielder Anthony Vela.

After 20 additional minutes, the Eagles got the first of two goals on the night off the boot of Searles. The first, scored at exactly 40:00, was created off a great through ball from junior Steve Gizzi which Searles touched past the keeper.

Just four minutes later, Searles struck again by heading in a great chip from senior Omar Villablanca.

Sophomore Nick Bautista capped the scoring by stealing an errant pass and beating the keeper with a shot just under the cross bar.

SDCC got back into the game with a pair of late goals off the foot of Alan Morris, though both came with most of the Eagles' reserves on the pitch.

Morris' first goal came when he beat the goalie one-on-one off a long through ball from Klye Ormsbee.

Morris added another with just 34 seconds left in the match, chipping a shot inside the far post.

The Eagles dominated the match with the exception of the two late goals, outshooting SDCC 17-4 and 14-0 in the first half.

Biola returns to Al Barbour Field in La Mirada on Friday (Oct. 3) for a home match against GSAC foe The Master's College at 7:00 p.m.
