Biola Wraps Up Regular Season With 3-0 Win Over Hope

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola scored three early goals and held on for a 3-0 win over Hope International in the regular season finale for both teams.

The Eagles (9-5-1, 5-4-1 GSAC) have a strong chance to make it to the NAIA Region II tournament as one of the eight teams selected. The final determination will be made on Sunday afternoon.

Biola opened the scoring in the sixth minute as strong pressure by the forwards forced Hope into a mistake which cost them an own goal. The last defender for the Royals went to head the ball back to his keeper to relieve pressure, but at the same instant the goalie came out to play the ball on his own. The resulting pass trickled quickly into the back of the net unimpeded.

Twelve minutes later, senior Marius Rus crashed the net and tapped home his first goal of the season off a great cross from Kasey Dunn.

Just five minutes after that, Keir Mitchell scored a brilliant goal, beating fellow Scot, Paul Allison to the far side. The play began with senior J.T. Searles sending in a long ball which was flicked off the head of senior Cody Moore, right to Mitchell, who easily shot it in.

While the Eagles created numerous other chances, the Hope defense tightened up and did not allow another goal.

On the other end of the pitch, senior netminder Ryan George posted his second straight shutout with a one-save performance.

The Eagles will await word on their playoff positioning, which will be announced on Sunday afternoon. The NAIA Region II quarterfinals begin on Wednesday, Nov. 1.
