Fresno Scores Quickly to Upset No. 16 Biola, 4-2

FRESNO, Calif. --- Fresno Pacific scored two pairs of goals within just minutes of each other in each half to lead the Sunbirds to a 4-2 upset win over No. 16 Biola on Tuesday night in Fresno.

The loss was the second straight for Biola (8-3-0, 4-3-0 GSAC), which dropped an overtime contest at No. 4 Vanguard on Saturday. Fresno Pacific improves to 10-1-3 and leap-frogs the Eagles in the GSAC standings with a 3-1-2 conference mark.

Biola opened the scoring with a goal by sophomore Nick Bautista, his team-leading fifth of the season.

However, the Sunbirds struck back to tie the match and then quickly took the lead with a pair of goals just six minutes apart.

Cameron Hill scored the tying goal with an unassisted strike in the 32nd minute, which was quickly followed by Amaury Nunes' unassisted goal in the 38th minute.

Biola came out firing in the second half an tied up the score in the 58th minute as junior Colin Kilpatrick netted his second goal of the year.

But it was the Sunbirds again with a pair of quick strikes to double their score. Adrian Alvarado found the back of the net to give Fresno the lead in the 69th minute. Then, just over a minute an and a half later, the Sunbirds found the back of the net again thanks to an own goal by Biola.

It looked as though Fresno would add another tally in the 84th minute as the Sunbirds were awarded a penalty kick. But Biola netminder Ryan George made a sprawling save to deny Nunes his second goal of the night.

However, the Eagles were unable to build off the momentum of the spectacular save and managed to get just one more shot off in the match.

Biola looks to get back on the winning side when it hosts GSAC foe Westmont College on Al Barbour Field on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
