COSTA MESA, Calif. --- No. 16 Biola had its four-match winning streak snapped at the hands of No. 4 Vanguard, falling 2-1 in overtime Saturday night in Costa Mesa.
The Eagles fall to 8-3-0 overall and 4-2-0 in GSAC action while the Lions improve to 10-2-1 and 4-1-1.
Biola scored an early goal off the foot of sophomore Tony Vela, who netted his second tally of the season in the 32nd minute.
The Lions managed to pull even midway through the second half as Darin Devore scored in the 64th minute to tie things up.
After the two battled into overtime, the Lions were able to net the match-winner just under two minutes into the overtime period. Dain Gallion was able to steal the ball, work around the goalkeeper and tap home his fourth goal of the season.
The Lion victory moves them ahead of Biola into second place in the GSAC standings with 13 points overall. The Eagles are now in third place with 12 points while Concordia maintained the top spot with 14 points after its 5-0 win over Hope International.
Biola can make up some ground on Tuesday (Oct. 17) as it travels to face Fresno Pacific in a 7:00 p.m. match. The Sunbirds are just one point back of the Eagles on the conference table, but have won just twice in their last five matches.
