Biola Drops Overtime Battle to Menlo

The Biola Eagles lost 78-74 to Menlo in overtime.

LA MIRADA---The Biola women's basketball team took Menlo College to overtime but came up just short in a 78–74 setback at the Haynes-Prim Pavilion.

Biola entered the fourth quarter trailing and delivered a poised response, erasing the deficit with timely shot-making and defensive stops. MiaGrace Delahoz ignited the comeback with a three-pointer early in the frame, and the Eagles gradually seized momentum with consistent scoring. Laney Grider knocked down the game-tying three-pointer, with 14 seconds remaining, that sent the teams into overtime.

Menlo controlled much of the overtime period, opening with a go-ahead basket and extending its lead to four at the free-throw line. Alyssa Kubo answered with a layup to pull Biola within two, but a Menlo three-pointer pushed the margin back to five with just over a minute remaining.

The Eagles continued to compete down the stretch, as Laney Grider converted three free throws to trim the deficit to two with under a minute to play. However, Menlo capitalized at the line in the closing seconds and held off Biola's final attempt to secure the 78–74 overtime victory.

The Eagles showed balance throughout the night, with multiple players scoring in double figures. Grider led her team with 28 points and Hanne Nybo and Jaycee Goldsmith scored 11 each. Alyssa Kubo led BU with four assists.

Camden Miller led Biola on the boards with nine, Grider contributed six and Delahoz added five.

Biola shot efficiently from the field and competed on the glass, but Menlo's late-game execution proved decisive. With the loss, the Eagles moved to 12–11 overall and 9–9 in the PacWest Conference, while the Oaks improved to 10–13 and 8–10 in conference action.

Biola will look to bounce back in its next conference matchup on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 5:30 p.m. at Chase Gym.
