Run Comes to an End

Biola's postseason debut wrapped up on the second day of the PacWest Tournament.

FRESNO, Calif. --- Day two of the PacWest Baseball Championships held an elimination game for the Biola squad. The fourth-seeded Eagles battled the third-seeded Hawaii Pacific Sharks and opened up an early lead. HPU battled back though, putting up 11-unanswered runs, as Biola's season came to a close with a 11-5 loss in the PacWest postseason tournament.

"It was a frustrating way to finish but I'm proud of the way we continued to fight until the end," said Head Coach Jesse Rodgers.

It did not take long for the Eagles to storm ahead on the scoreboard. A walk followed by back-to-back singles put the first run across in the top of the first. Luke Caruso logged an RBI single for one score, before Tommy Kendlinger tacked on two more runs with a single up the middle. The two-out rally in the first frame gave BU a 3-0 lead.

BU starting pitcher Luke Ballantyne toed the line, taking on intense battles with the opposition through each and every batter. The lefty tossed over 100 pitches in four innings but did well to keep the Sharks from reaching home plate. Ballantyne allowed just one run, while striking out four in four frames.

The Biola bats added two more runs in the fourth without recording a hit. Nick Madole used his base running skills for the first score of the at bat. The second baseman reached by hit-by-pitch, before stealing second and third base. He came home off a wild pitch, while Isaiah Leon moved to third base. Caruso nabbed another RBI with a sacrifice fly that went to the warning track for a 5-0 BU lead.

HPU began its comeback in the bottom of the fourth with a single run. The home squad tabbed two more in the fifth to pull within range at 5-3 just past the halfway point in the contest.

The big jolt for the Sharks came in the seventh inning. Four-consecutive singles helped tie the game at five, before two home runs totally flipped the game in the Sharks' favor.

Biola never found the rhythm at the plate, as five of the team's seven hits came in the first three innings with all seven going for singles.

"We learned a ton of lessons throughout the season. We continued to become better people, which is the most important part to me. Our habits continued to get better," added Rodgers.

Biola wrapped up 2025 with a 26-27 overall record and their first postseason action in the NCAA DII era.
