April 23, 2025

VISTA, Calif. --- With postseason play just days away, the Western Water Polo Association handed out its postseason awards on Wednesday afternoon. Biola had seven accolades bestowed upon its student-athletes as 2025 All-WWPA standouts.

The Eagles capped off the 2025 regular season with a 9-17 overall record. The program reached its fourth year in existence and captured the top seed in the west region of the conference, once again, going 4-0 against WWPA foes this year.

Veralie Naranjo was a big part of the team's success, pulling in a First Team All-WWPA selection. She was a prolific goal-getter with 71 scores this season but was an overall force for the Eagles' attack with a WWPA-best 97 points. Naranjo recorded 47 ejections drawn on the year, seven of which were five-meter penalty fouls. Defensively, she nabbed 20 steals. Naranjo was named First Team All-WWPA for the second-straight season, while making an All-WWPA Team in each of the last three years.

Ava LoBue made the headlines with a Second Team All-WWPA nod and a WWPA All-Defensive Team recognition. The senior did it all for BU in 2025. She packed the stat sheet with 22 goals, 41 assists, 35 steals, 11 field blocks, and 24 sprint wins. The top of the conference leaderboard featured LoBue in multiple categories, as she finished in the top three for assists, steals, field blocks, and sprint wins.

Lizzy Birch notched a Honorable Mention All-WWPA selection with her veteran play this year. Birch led the conference in steals with 37 and tacked on 26 goals, which ranked second on the team. She was a force to be dealt with drawing 39 exclusions, and scoring on 44.8 percent of the shots she took.

Christina Cervantes was another senior honored by the conference, earning WWPA All-Defensive Team marks. Cervantes came off the bench to make a huge impact for the Eagles, tallying 32 steals, which ranked fourth in the WWPA. She also led the team and ranked second in the conference with 12 field blocks in 2025.

Destiny Moreno and Gwendolyn Pidd added the final two awards with WWPA All-Freshman Team selections. The duo made an immediate impact in their rookie campaigns offensively and defensively. Moreno was one of the top performers for Biola with 22 goals and 14 assists for 36 points, while also offering 18 steals, three field blocks and 26 drawn exclusions. Pidd broke out with three four-goal performances in the back-half of the season, totaling 24 goals and four assists with 20 steals in 2025.

The Eagles' talented roster is set for postseason play, as the team will head right to the semifinals in the WWPA Tournament set for Saturday at 10:00 am PT (1:00 pm ET) in Morgantown, West Virginia.
