You Gotta Believe

With the game on the line, the Eagles delivered to sweep the day against Hawaii Hilo.

HILO, Hawaii --- It was a battle to extend the BU squad's winning streak to nine games but the Eagles got the job done. Nothing could faze Biola (32-15, 24-5 PacWest), as the team erased a two-run deficit in the seventh before pulling off a 4-3 win in the 10th frame against Hawaii Hilo (21-21, 15-14 PacWest).

Biola entered the final frame with its back up against the wall, down 2-0. No runs through six innings put the team in a hole but they were not done.

The BU bats put the ball in play to start the seventh and found any way on base. Two errors put two on and a sacrifice bunt put the tying run in scoring position. Alexa Medley made the splash and singled to bring home the first run. Kendall Nakano flew out to right field, scoring Leilani Salgado for the tying run.

DJ Symons was handed the ball in the bottom of the seventh and the lefty ensured extras with a 1-2-3 inning.

Not much happened on the base path in the eighth and ninth frames with only one runner between the two frames for either team.

The start of the tenth brought a runner on second base to start the at bat but back-to-back outs came, including the automatic runner getting thrown out at home. With a runner now on first, Kendall Nakano started a two-out rally with a base hit. Bridgette Trujillo brought home both runners with a single. Alexa Medley scored off the base hit for an RBI, before Nakano tacked on an insurance run off the back of a UHH error.

The two-run lead was crucial, as the Vulcans moved their automatic runner across but that was it, as the Eagles held on.

Symons earned the win for her work in extras, marking her 16th this season.

To open up the ballgame, Raquel Reyes was in control for Biola, tossing four innings. The righty hurler powered through four frames, allowing just two base runners.

Some trouble came in the fifth inning, as the Vulcans loaded the bases with one out. The host squad found a single to nab one run but a nice play from Kennadie Tsue got an out at home to prevent another.

Four Eagles grabbed multiple hits in game two, including Medley, Nakano, Trujillo, and Mikala Huskey.

The Eagles wrap up their series against Hawaii Hilo on Saturday with a single game at 3:00 pm PT.
