Biola Drops Two Games on Monday

The Eagles split the series with Hawaii Pacific after a tough Monday doubleheader.

HONOLULU, Hawaii --- Biola took Saturday and Hawaii Pacific took Monday, as the two teams split the four game series in Hawaii. Monday's doubleheader saw both sides of the coin, as the Eagles bounced back from a rough game one to play it close in game two.

GAME ONE
The open to Monday's doubleheader got out of hand for Biola. The Sharks got to work on offense and ended the game early with a run-rule win over the Eagles at 12-2.

Hawaii Pacific scored in all seven innings to take the 10-run lead. Nothing could slow the host squad, who hit it all over the field for 12 runs on 13 hits.

Adiel Torres picked up a double in the top of the first but with two outs the Eagles could not bring him home. Torres was the lone Eagle in the game with two hits, going 2-4 at the plate in game one.

Luke Caruso put Biola on the scoreboard with his second career home run. The sophomore crushed the first pitch he saw in the fourth inning for a leadoff solo homer. Three-straight walks loaded the bases later in the at bat but HPU escaped without more damage done.

The BU offense kept the pressure on in the fifth. Caruso sparked the rally again, this time taking first base on a hit by pitch with two outs. James Whitman followed with a single, before Isaiah Leon was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Jonny Tewinkle stepped in and tallied an RBI with a single to left field, scoring Caruso. A ground ball brought out number three, closing out another prime opportunity.

GAME TWO
The contest was about as evenly matched as can be. A pitching battle featured a combined seven hits between the two teams through the seven inning affair. Biola and Hawaii Pacific each had one home run but a runner on for HPU's long ball made the difference in the 2-1 final.

Nick Brown got the ball to start game two and began with three empty frames. Two singles were all the Sharks could muster against the righty hurler until the fourth.

In the fourth inning, Hawaii Pacific found its pitch scoring two with a home run. Brown responded with three-straight outs to end the fourth.

The Biola bats struggled to get much going on the base paths with three hits in the game. The Eagles finally hit the scoreboard in the sixth off the bat of Jonny Tewinkle. The left fielder left the park, offering his first home run of the season.

The solo shot still left the Eagles down by one and the team could not connect, leading to the 2-1 finish.

Josh Eigenbrodt and Dylan Alanis pitched the fifth and sixth, respectively, for Biola. The duo combined for six outs and zero runs allowed.

The Eagles will stay in Oahu for their next competition, taking on Chaminade on Thursday with a single game at 7:00 pm PT.
