LA MIRADA --- Biola Basketball was recognized for its dedication on and off the court with the announcement of the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District List. The 2025 list featured Biola's
Facundo Aranda from men's basketball and
Laila Walker,
Sammie Henley, and
Jessa Thurman from women's basketball.
The 2024 Academic All-District Basketball teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Aranda stepped up in the face of injuries for the Biola squad, competing in all 29 games and drawing 17 starts. He averaged 16.2 minutes per game, while totaling 116 points, 35 assists, and 26 steals. In the classroom, Aranda maintained a 3.67 grade-point average in his sophomore year, majoring in business administration.
Walker posted a 3.57 GPA as an undergrad at Biola, before nabbing a perfect 4.0 GPA, while working on a master's degree in leadership and innovation. Walker was a leader for the Eagles, starting in all 29 games in her fifth season in La Mirada. The veteran led the team in assists with 110 and also tallied 275 points and 48 steals.Â
Henley was a graduate-transfer for Biola this year and made an immediate impact. The guard paced the team with 292 points, while averaging 11.2 points, and 3.7 rebounds per game. She secured the academic award with a 3.63 GPA as an undergraduate and a 3.83 GPA while working on her masters degree in global health.
Thurman was the leading rebounder for BU and picked up the academic honor with a 3.72 GPA, while majoring in sociology. The junior started in 26 contests and competed in 28 to compile 273 points and 174 rebounds. She notched three double-doubles in 2025.
