Eagles (T)sweep The Day

Kennadie Tsue and Raquel Reyes' big days in the box lead to 8-2 win.

AZUSA, Calif. — The bats kept on batting on Friday night in Azusa as the Eagles slugged their way to another 8-2 victory to sweep day one over the hosting Cougars.

The highlight of the night was back-to-back jacks from Kendall Nakano and Raquel Reyes in the fifth inning. Nakano's was a behemoth of a blast, traveling several rows into the abandoned drive-in theatre parking lot at APU.

The Eagles' eight runs came on 12 hits, including the two bombs and two other doubles. Biola ended the road doubleheader with 26 total hits and outscored their hosts 16-4. Its Biola's first road doubleheader sweep vs. Azusa since 2021 and just its fifth time ever (2006, 07, 08, 21).

The run support went to Biola's game two starter, Raquel Reyes. The grad transfer doled up the second complete game effort of the day for Biola, limiting APU to just a single run in the fourth inning and another in the seventh. She faced 34 APU batters on her way to picking up her sixth win at Biola.

As per usual, Reyes did her part to back up her own pitching performance with a phenomenal game in the batter's box. She had the home run we referred to earlier while going 3-for-3 with a walk to reach safely all four times to the dish. She scored three of the Eagles' eight runs in this one.

Biola had seven different players contribute with a hit in the nightcap on Friday. It was a great game for Kennadie Tsue, who reached base in three of her four plate appearances. She had a hit, walked twice and drove in a pair of runs.

Jackie Ibarra, Makayla Jordan and Mikala Huskey each had multi-hit games as other standouts. Ibarra is now tied for the team lead with 12 multi-hit games during this 2025 season. She's hit safely in six straight games, which is the longest current hit streak on the team.

Ariana Banos kept a streak of her own alive in this game by picking up a base hit. She's reached base safely in eight appearances in a row, which leads the team in that category.

The Eagles' offense was consistently deadly in the latter stages of the game, getting one run in the fourth inning, two in the fifth and three in the sixth to keep expanding their lead and tightening their grip on the game.

The loss drops APU to 14-13 overall and 11-7 in league play. Meanwhile, Biola earns its eighth win in a row to improve to 23-10 overall and incredibly 15-2 in PacWest Conference play. The Eagles host Azusa Pacific for two more Cornerstone Cup rivalry games on Saturday. First pitch at Freedom Field is booked for 12 p.m.
