Nakano No-Doubter

The Biola dugout stayed electric with another walkoff, as Kendall Nakano won it with a homer.

LA MIRADA --- Biola (20-10) stepped onto the diamond in a high-profile matchup against Pace (6-5)  from the state of New York. A pitching duel ensued but it was Kendall Nakano to decide the game, walking it off with a home run in the ninth for a 2-1 Biola win.

Raquel Reyes was handed the ball for the start and was superb for Biola. The reigning PacWest Pitcher of the Week strutted her stuff through eight plus innings in the circle with only one run to her name.

The solo run for Pace against Reyes came in the opening frame. A leadoff walk led to the visitor's score, as a two-out hit brought home the run.

Reyes brought the arm and the bat, helping her own cause by logging the team's lone RBI in the scheduled seven innings. The righty went the opposite way for a single, opening the door for Jackie Ibarra to score from second. A tight window was won by Ibarra who slid around the tag to knot the game at one in the fourth inning.

The zeros continued on the scoreboard as both hurlers were nearly untouchable. The 1-1 tie held through the seventh inning, forcing extras for the second time in as many games for BU.

Reyes worked around a single to close out a scoreless eighth but faced runners on first and second with one out in the top of the ninth. DJ Symons got an opportunity in the circle and closed the door. A flyout and strikeout kept the game deadlocked at one, as the Eagles offense came up in the bottom of the ninth.

Nakano was the first to the plate in the ninth and faced a new pitcher, the first reliever for Pace. The second pitch of the at bat was out of the park as fast as it reached the plate, as Nakano hit the game-winner home run.

The freshman picked the perfect time for her sixth home run of the year, ending the game at 2-1 in Biola's favor.

The walkoff hit on Tuesday came on the back of a Monday night walkoff hit in the ninth inning from Ariana Banos

Symons picked up the win for Biola, collecting her ninth win of 2025.

The Eagles will look to keep the momentum in game two against Pace, which is set to begin at 5:35 pm.
