Finding a Way

It took nine innings but the Biola softball squad nabbed a win on Tuesday night, splitting the day with Jessup.

LA MIRADA --- Biola (7-7, 1-1 PacWest) came back against Jessup (7-8, 1-1 PacWest) twice in game two on Tuesday to steal away a 4-3 victory. The game took extras to determine a winner but Kennadie Tsue scored the game-tying run in the seventh and the walk off run in the ninth for Biola.

The pressure was on for the Eagles with the team three outs from dropping game two. Biola was down 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh with one at bat left.

The first batter up the plate was Tsue who reached on a mishap from the Warrior's shortstop. The BU shortstop moved to second on a Kendall Nakano sacrifice bunt, putting the tying run in scoring position. Another error made the difference, as the second fielding error for Jessup allowed Tsue to score for a 3-3 tie.

Extra innings brought a quiet eighth inning, holding the game at three apiece. DJ Symons continued to deal in her ninth inning in the circle, closing out a three-up, three-down frame, opening the walk off opportunity for the offense.

Tsue once again led off in the crucial at bat and once again got on base. A single to left field put an Eagle on first base and a sacrifice bunt moved her over again. Racquel Reyes came up next and put the ball into play and Tsue found her way home. A Biola bounce on a grounder to second base helped the ball into the outfield, as the Eagles celebrated the 4-3 win.

Reyes and Tsue combined for all four of Biola runs on Tuesday night. The first two runs came off of the swing of Reyes, who knocked her first home run as an Eagle in the second inning. The long ball also brought home Tsue, as Biola erased a 2-0 first inning deficit.

Symons dealt a gem of a game for the Biola squad. The lefty overcame a two-run first inning to score the win on Tuesday. Nine innings dealt and nine strikeouts highlighted career-bests for the junior.

Mikala Huskey added two hits for the BU lineup, going 2-3 from the number seven spot.

Biola will be right back to it on Wednesday, battling Jessup once again with the doubleheader beginning at 3:00 pm.
