LA MIRADA, Calif. --- A sharp-shooting fourth quarter from Cal State San Bernardino spoiled what had been three quarters of strong, confident basketball from Biola Women's Basketball. The Eagles fell 68–60 on Saturday afternoon at Chase Gym.Â
Biola entered the final frame holding a 53–51 lead and appeared in control for much of the night, but CSUSB caught fire late while the Eagles went cold and turned it over in key moments, flipping the result in the closing minutes.
Through three periods, Biola had defended well, moved the ball, and dictated tempo — outscoring the Coyotes in the paint, controlling the glass, and generating a balanced scoring attack.
But in the fourth, CSUSB shot 6-for-12 from the field, including multiple threes, and the Yotes forced eight Biola turnovers, capitalizing to outscore the Eagles 17–7 down the stretch. Biola shot just 2-for-15 in the fourth quarter.
Biola began the afternoon on fire offensively, putting up 25 first-quarter points and shooting an impressive 10-for-14 from the field.Â
The Eagles' ball distribution was locked in, with six assists in that opening frame. Biola followed that with an 18-point second quarter highlighted by defensive pressure — grabbing three steals and seven forced turnovers, which sent them into halftime up 43-38.
The third quarter remained tight, but Biola continued to execute. Even as CSUSB chipped away, Biola held a 47–41 lead and later a 53–51 edge entering the fourth after a crafty layup from
Grace Moyers gave the Eagles some breathing room.
The final period, however, belonged to the Coyotes. CSUSB's efficiency climbed—shooting 50% from the field in the quarter, while Biola struggled to convert clean looks and protect the ball, directly feeding into San Bernardino's transition opportunities. CSUSB also earned second-chance looks, collecting key offensive rebounds that extended possessions at critical moments.Â
Alyssa Kubo once again paced Biola with a team-high 15 points on 6-for-13 shooting, attacking the rim all afternoon. After missing yesterday's game,
Aliyah Bantolina got in and made an impact. She scored 11 points on 5-for-8 shooting.
Grace Moyers delivered a strong bounce-back performance after a tough opener, scoring 10 points — including two threes — and adding two steals and two assists.
Jaycee Goldsmith added 14 points and hit four threes, serving as Biola's most reliable perimeter threat.
Biola moves to 1–1 on the season and returns to Chase Gym on Saturday, November 22, taking on Cal Poly Humboldt at 3 p.m.
