A Delightful Day Two

Biola experiences more success during day two of action at Lansing Pool.

September 28, 2024

LA MIRADA, Calif. — Biola Swim & Dive completed day two of hosting the Simon Fraser Red Leafs on Saturday at Lansing Pool. The Eagles celebrated their alumni appreciation day with some solid swims and, for the first time this season, a handful of tremendous dives.

The day began with the men and women's one-meter and three-meter dive. The Eagles' dive team of five divers competed head-to-head as SFU did not have any divers this year.

Lorelai Carney picked up the win in the one-meter with a season-opening score of 283.80 to pace the Biola women's trio of her, Abby DePina and Lauren Smith. She also won the three-meter board with a 297.50.

Caleb Pook was the pacesetter for the men with a three-meter score of 278.60 and one-meter effort finishing at 311.60. Those dives gave Biola a 26-point head start on the men's side and 32-point head start on the women's side.

For the second straight day the Eagles' women's team picked up a head-to-head victory. This time the Eagles set aside Simon Fraser by a final score of 115-103 over the course of the traditional 13-event meet.

The men could not get the team victory, but they were able to pick up an event win today. In one of the most thrilling swims of the afternoon, Nathan Griffin came from behind in the 200-backstroke to pass two SFU swimmers in the final 75 yards and win the event with a time of 1:54.54.

The Biola women got wins in four of the swimming events. Under the sweltering Southern California sun, the Eagles' women were on fire. Their 'a' team began the day with a convincing win in the 400-medley relay. They were out in front by three seconds with a winning time of 4:01.94.

Chloe Colvard and Malia Ciolli each won individual events for BU. The Ciolli win was impressive as the BU freshman was in third place for much of the 200-breaststroke event, before closing with an incredible final 25 yards. She had a 2:30.20 to out-touch SFU's standout Delrae Vetter by four-tenths of a second. Ciolli's victory was the closest race of the day. Colvard's win came in the 200-backstroke as she and Allison Yancey finished first and third for BU.

Biola continues its fall schedule with next week's Rodionoff Invite hosted in Malibu, California by Pepperdine University.
