Game two had a different tone on Friday, as Biola split the day with a win over Concordia.

March 08, 2024

Box Score IRVINE, Calif. --- The offense delivered in the back half of Friday's doubleheader against Concordia (8-4, 4-2 PacWest). Four runs in the fourth and three runs in the seventh pushed the Eagles way out front and Biola (11-8-1, 3-3 PacWest) picked up the game two win by a 9-5 final margin.

The Eagles split the day with the Golden Eagles of CUI, after losing game one in the afternoon. The evenly played day kept the team at .500 in PacWest play at 3-3.

Austin Carillo provided the go-ahead hit in the fourth frame. A long ball from the leadoff man scored three, as a 3-4 deficit turned into a 6-4 lead for Biola. The three-run shot from Carillo pushed the fourth inning to a four-run at bat for the Eagles, with the help of a Sam Lisiak double and score earlier in the inning.

The Biola offense got off to a hot start in game two, lacing three singles in a row in the first inning. From Carillo to Noah Ruiz to Wyatt Duncan, the trio each grabbed a single with Duncan landing one RBI and Ruiz scoring on a wild pitch for a 2-0 Biola lead.

CUI evened the game at two with a pair of scores of its own in the bottom of the first. Concordia continued its momentum by putting another run on the board in the second and third to take the 4-2 advantage.

Following BU's breakout in the fourth, CUI responded with a leadoff double and a score to pull within one at 6-5.

The insurance runs for the Eagles came through in the seventh and final frame. The usual suspects of Ruiz and Duncan sparked the rally with a single and a double to put runners in scoring position. Whitman racked up the first RBI and Lisiak came next to bring home the second. Leon kept things moving along with a single and ultimately touched home with a Jonathan Kumai single. The action on the base paths led to three runs and a 9-5 lead with three outs to go.

Jake Anderson earned those three outs for Biola, picking up the save on Friday. The reliever finished off the day with two and two-thirds innings pitched and three strikeouts.

Blake Wentz was the winning pitcher for the Eagles, tossing the first four and a third innings.

The Eagles will turn around and play host for the second doubleheader of the weekend against Concordia on Saturday beginning at 11:00 am.
