Game Recap: Men's Water Polo |

Fourth Quarter Falloff

Biola's long day catches up to them in the fourth quarter of a loss to Whittier.

WHITTIER, Calif. — Biola's day ends with disappointment as the Whittier College Poets used a huge fourth quarter to hand the Eagles a 15-9 loss.

The Eagles drop to 1-2 all-time against the Poets, who improved to 8-1 on the season and are a top-10 NCAA Division III team.

Biola and Whitter were separated by just one goal heading into the fourth quarter, but Whittier had a bit more left in the tank to out-score the Eagles 6-1 in the fourth and finish up with that six-goal edge, which does not really represent how competitive the match really was.

While Biola was still catching its breath from a double sudden-death thriller vs. RV Wagner College, Whittier zipped out to a 4-1 advantage in the game. Biola got one goal back, but then it was quickly 6-2 following a few more Poet conversions.

A goal from Christian Trapp and two from freshman Brandt McBride sparked some life into the Eagles' offense. The team scored five of the next six goals to bring things back to a level score line late in the third quarter.

Unfortunately, that scoring mojo dissipated in the fourth as BU managed just one goal from Gavin McKenzie before ending the contest on a seven-minute, 52 second scoreless stretch.

McBride's two goals paced the team's effort while seven other Eagles added one goal a piece, including Braeden Marsolini, Luke Franklin and Koen Vos.

Biola drops to 6-12 following the two afternoon losses today. But, the Eagles have four chances for redemption coming up this weekend, beginning tomorrow at Chapman with games against CSU Fullerton and Chapman as part of the Gary Troyer Invitational.
