Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Billi Derleth, Assistant Sports Information Director

Navarro & Hardin Combination Does It

The Biola men’s soccer team took home an exciting 2-0 victory over Hawaii Pacific at Al Barbour Field.

LA MIRADA---The Biola men's soccer team took home an exciting 2-0 victory over Hawaii Pacific at Al Barbour Field.

"We didn't have our best game today but still found a way to win the game and get our first shut at home this year, stated head coach Joey O'Keefe.

Cruz Navarro and Ethan Hardin had a game to remember as they teamed up to score both of Biola's goals against the Sharks.

The Eagles' first goal was netted in the 26th minute by Navarro. The freshman received a good ball from Hardin to put BU on the scoreboard (1-0).

Navarro and Hardin would do it again in the second half. Navarro scored Biola's second goal in the 69th minute with the assist coming from Hardin.

"Cruz has come up big for us this year at different moments when we've needed offensive production," shared O'Keefe. "He's got a high ceiling if he can continue improving on what he's done so far."

Navarro is BU's leading goal scorer with six goals and Hardin leads Biola in assists with five.

"Ethan and Cruz have contributed so much to the stat sheet this year for us," said O'Keefe. "Their partnership is growing and they're heating up at the right time."

Gijs van Schouten was the Eagles' goalkeeper who made two saves against the Sharks in 90 minutes of action. The Senior collected his second shutout of the year.

Tom Irion, Adrian Acevedo, and Tomislav Jozinovic also delivered outstanding defensive performances, each playing the full 90 minutes and playing a crucial role in keeping HPU scoreless.

O'Keefe added, "Huge credit to our backline and goalkeeper who played 90 minutes a piece today, they needed this shutout."

"The most important thing is that we do not get complacent," concluded O'Keefe "The roster this season is full of talent, top to bottom. If we can stay motivated every day and be hungry for more on the field, then this team can accomplish something special."

Biola improves to 6-6-1 overall and 4-2 in the PacWest Conference while HPU fell 3-10 and 2-5.

Biola plays next on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 4 p.m. against Hawaii Hilo at Al Barbour Field.
