January 20, 2024

LA MIRADA --- A cold, cloudy, and rainy day could not damper the Eagles, as the BU squad honored its seniors before its dual meet against The Maste's. Both the men and the women's teams corralled the win to add to the celebration.

The day began with the women's 200 medley relay where Biola placed first. Winning by over five seconds, Allison Yancey, Meghan Tolman, Emilee Elizondo and Katie Ottman worked together to finish with a 1:48.35 time

The men's 200 medley relay followed shortly after with a finish very similar to the women. Nathan Griffin, Tate Fitzgerald, Eli Houseman and Caleb Hernandez worked their way up to the top of the podium completing the race with a 1:36.16 time. Hernandez finished the job for his relay team as he expanded their lead from .01 to .67 for a first place victory.

Biola's women dominated in the first long distance event of the day with Tessa Halleen leading the charge in the 1000 free. The freshman was way out front in first place with a time of 11:06.20, while her teammates helped sweep the podium with Jackie Mudd in second and Sidney MacGillivray in third.

Morgan Kampfer found herself at the top of the podium with a 1:58.41 first place win in the 200 free. She led her teammate, Chloe Colvard by .19 seconds. By a time of 1:44.75, Alejandro Marchenisini tapped in for a second place finish for the Eagles on the men's side.

Biola won the 200 individual medley on both the men's and women's sides. For the women, Coco Friedley and Colvard led the pack finishing in first and second place. Friedley finished the race with a time of 2:14.83 and Colvard finished just six seconds behind her. On the men's side, Jacob Haaksma took the lead with his freestyle, finishing in first place by .13 seconds with a time of 1:57.19.

With a 1:00.44 finish, Emilee Elizondo took first in the 100 butterfly. Three seconds later, came Kimmy Gordon who touched for a third place finish.

On the men's side of the 100 butterfly, it was a little bit tighter as the first and third place finishers were only one second apart from each other. At the top of the podium with a 52.20 time was Sean Rho and right behind him, but finishing in bronze was Matthew Trejo.

Next up in the 50 free, the Biola men swept the podium. Hernandez touched first with a short time of 22.45 followed by Griffin touching .19 seconds later. Completing the podium sweep for the Eagles, came Ryan Monrean finishing at 22.78.

Phoebe Munholland's 24.81 time gave her a first place finish in the 50 free and her teammate Ottman came in third place with the clock showing 25.23.

Yancey and Elizondo made their way onto the podium in the 100 backstroke. Yancey led the 100 back swimmers with a time of 59.02 and Elizondo's 1:01.99 time was good for a third place title. Biola's Nathan Griffin and Monrean finished in the top two spots for the 100 backstroke. Griffin finished 1.42 seconds ahead of his teammate, Monrean, who placed second with his 54.30 time.
