More Solid Softball

The softball team got the job done with two more solid wins against Holy Names, winning their first game 4-1 and the second 4-3 at Freedom Field

LA MIRADA---The Biola softball team executed some more solid softball against Holy Names at Freedom Field, wrapping up a successful four-game series. 

The Eagles improve 21-18 overall and 13-9 in the PacWest Conference, while the Hawks fall 11-26 and 8-13 in the PacWest.

Game 1: BU 4 / HNU 1
Raylene Roybal threw a two-hitter against Holy Names in the first game of the day. Roybal was dominant in the circle, throwing four 1-2-3 innings and three strikeouts against the Hawks.

The Eagles stacked up four runs in the first inning. Rilee Ruvalcaba brought in the first run of the game with a single down the right field line and then another scored off an error by the Hawks, 2-0. 

Roybal helped herself out with a deep double to left field which increased Biola's lead to 3-0. Kaitlyn Hawkins scored BU's final run of the inning with a single down the right field line, 4-0.

Holy Names held the Eagles scoreless for the remainder of the game and ended up scoring one run in the fourth inning off an Eagle error. 

Game 2: BU 4 / HNU 3
The second game against Holy Names was much closer, but the Eagles were able to hold down a 4-3 win against the Hawks.

Biola scored a pair of runs in the first and second innings which put them ahead, 4-0.

Abie Nowak hit a two-run homer to right field to put Biola up 2-0 in the first inning. Colby McClinton scored the Eagles next run in the second inning with a right center double and then Allie Beck singled to score McClinton (4-0).

Holy Names scored a run in the third, fourth and fifth innings but it wasn't enough to get past Biola who ended up winning 4-3 to conclude the series.  

Biola outhit Holy Names 9-7 in the contest, but the Eagles also allowed three errors to the Hawks' one.

The Eagles pitching staff was composed of Kayla Bousquette, Jennifer Morinishi, DJ Simons, and Roybal who closed the game. Bousquette got the second-game start and threw 3.2 innings, allowing two runs to score. Morinishi relieved to shut down the fourth inning and then DJ Symons allowed one hit and one run to score in the fifth. Roybal closed out the final two innings and received her third save of the season. 

The Eagles will take Sunday off and come back ready to play on Monday, Apr. 17 against Academy of Art with a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. at Freedom Field.
