Eagles Lose in Extra Innings

The softball team lost 5-4 to Chaminade in the ninth inning.

HONOLULU, Hawai'i---The Biola softball team lost a tough 5-4 battle to Chaminade in extra innings. 

The Silverswords (5-4 overall, 1-2 PacWest) and Eagles (9-5, 2-1) went back-and-forth, until CUH was able to pack the last punch in the ninth with a walk-off base hit to win the game by one run. 

Chaminade got off to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Biola took a short lead in the top of the third where they pushed across two runs. Allie Beck tripled to score Rilee Ruvalcaba who singled to begin the third, 1-1. Jennifer Morninishi continued the rally by knocking a single through the middle that put the Eagles up, 2-1. 

CUH responded immediately in the bottom of the inning by scoring the game-tying run off of two hits, 2-2.

Both teams scored again in the sixth, Biola had the go-ahead run (3-2) and then Chaminade matched it (3-3).

A scoreless seventh sent the Eagles and Silverswords into extra innings. Biola fended off Chaminade in the bottom of the eighth where the Silverswords were close to scoring. CUH led with a triple and Biola held down a strong defensive front to get out of the inning unscathed. 

Biola then broke through in the ninth where they scored the leading run. Morinishi singled with two-outs to give the Eagles runners on first and second and then Colby McClinton poked a single to right center, successfully scoring the game-winning run, 4-3.

The home team rallied together to upset Biola in the bottom of the ninth where they scored two-runs to walk off the game, 5-4.

Raylene Roybal tossed the first six innings and Morinishi threw the final 2.1 innings in the Eagles' loss. 

The final game in the Eagles and Silverswords four-game series has begun.
