Eagles Hold Yotes

The softball team held San Bernardino to one run in their 3-1 victory over the Yotes.

LA MIRADA--- The Biola Softball team started the day off strong with a 3-1 win over Cal State San Bernardino.

The Eagles (7-3) scored the first run of the game in the third inning. Rilee Ruvalcaba walked to get the inning going for Biola. Ruvalcaba was then pushed over to second with a sacrifice bunt by Allie Beck. Jennifer Morinishi lined out to center to give the Eagles their second out and then Colby McClinton would extend the inning by working a walk.

With runners on first and second, Abie Nowak would clutch up with a two-out single up the middle and score the leading run and then the Yotes (3-5) would work out of the inning by fielding the final out (1-0).

CSUSB would respond with a tying run in the fourth inning, but the Eagles would waste no time in taking back the lead.

Biola scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth. A Yote error with one out would get the inning going for BU and then Beck would get hit by the pitcher to give them runners on first and second. Morinishi would have a big RBI double to left center, putting Biola up 2-1.

The Eagles would score one more run before the inning ended. Abie Nowak would single again to score the third run and her second RBI of the game, putting Biola ahead 3-1.

BU would hold CSUSB on defense for the last three innings. San Bernardino came close in the sixth inning where they had back-to-back singles to lead off, but Raylene Roybal would shut down their momentum with a strikeout and then her defense would show up big with a double play. McClinton would convert a quick double play from shortstop to Ruvalcaba at second to Abie Nowak at first.

The Eagles would close up the seventh inning with no damage done and solidify their 3-1 victory.

Roybal tossed a great game where she only allowed six hits. Roybal also fired in four strikeouts against the Yotes.

Next up for Biola is the second part of the day's doubleheader against San Bernardino.
