September 04, 2022

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ANNAPOLIS, Md. --- The ripples were alive in the pool on Sunday. Water polo action was electric for Biola in a pair of battles against Mount St. Mary's and Navy.

The Eagles opened their day with their first lead of 2022. Kenny Wulf found the back of the net within the first 30 seconds of the match. Through the first period the two teams would go even at 3-3.

In the second eight minute segment, BU retook the lead with a score from Joshua Halopoff. The squad continued to rally, securing a halftime lead with a pair of powerplay goals from Jonas Huckabay later in the period.

The 6-4 advantage for Biola featured goals from four different Eagles, including Wulf, Huckabay, Halopoff and Dominic Hidalgo-Valecillo.

The Mountaineers roared back in the second half. Six goals came in from BU's opponent, as the comeback push for MSM was in full swing. Maxwell Osborn momentarily slowed the momentum with a 5-meter score with 14 seconds left in the third period.

Mount St. Mary's secured their fate with four unanswered goals to start the final stanza. The strong stretch opened up a 14-9 deficit for BU with three minutes left in the contest. Nolan Rapp and Wulf each capitalized on MSM exclusions but the last two goals only brought the final score to 14-11.

Four different Eagles landed multiple goals in the contest, as Wulf led the way with three scores of his own.

The schedule for the rest of the day changed to have Biola face off against Navy's "B" team in an exhibition matchup. BU's originally scheduled opponent in Bucknell was forced to forfeit due to their coaching staff receiving a red card in their prior game.

Biola owned its second bout of the day, leading for 31 of 32 minutes of the contest. Once again, Wulf sparked the strong start with two goals in the opening period.

John Grasso, Rapp, Halopoff, Hidalgo-Valecillo, Gavin Oliver, Adam Lavoy and Will Tibbetts all tallied at least one goal on the way to a 15-10 win in the exhibition.

The BU defense corralled nine steals as a group, including two for Lavoy and two from Halopoff. In the net, Mitchell Carpenter was the last line of defense with 12 saves in the game and 26 on the day.

Biola will now look towards its home opener set for Friday in a WWPA matchup against Loyola Marymount.
