Eagles Go Inland

Biola sees some new collegiate-bests at the UCR Chris Rinne Twilight Meet.

April 22, 2022

RIVERSIDE, Calif.
— A small group of Eagles flocked inland on Friday evening to participate in a last tune-up before next week's PacWest Conference Championships.

Biola Track & Field participated in a mix of distance and sprints at UC Riverside's Chris Rinne Twilight meet and experienced some success with four new personal-bests.

Garrett Carswell had the chance to run a 400m dash (outside of a relay and with no hurdles) for the first time this season. He placed 19th with a time of :51.09. That would be the 17th-best in the PacWest this season and the fourth-best among his Biola teammates.

Outside of Carswell, Biola had six entries into the men and women's 5,000m.

Kaela Berretta held it down for the ladies and had a strong scoring performance. The second-year Eagle set a new personal-best with a 7-second improvement over her previous mark. She turned in a second-place finish with an 18:24.08. That's 18th in the league this season.

The men's 5k was packed out for Biola with Jacob Shirota, Aiden Arredondo, Charlie Bailey, Aidan Tomasini and Caden Sanchez each earning top-10 finishes in the event.

Shirota was the Eagles' highest finisher, placing third with a 15:08.44, which was a 13-second improvement from his previous collegiate-best. His effort was the 17th-best in the PacWest so far this year, and the fifth lowest time on the team.

Arredondo was fourth, Bailey sixth, Tomasini eighth and Sanchez 10th to round out the other finishers for BU. Arredondo had a narrow collegiate-best with his finish of 15:17.36.

Up next for Biola is the PacWest Championships on April 29-30 at Point Loma.
