LA MIRADA, Calif. — Biola Women's Water Polo celebrated the career and contributions of Hanna Jordan with an exciting win on Thursday in the regular season finale against Fresno Pacific at home.

It was Senior Day for Jordan, whose senior season at Concordia University Irvine was stolen by COVID-19. She scored a pair and assisted another in an effective outing in leading her team to an 11-10 victory over FPU.

"For all the laughter and fun she brought to the team, she matched it with steadiness, intensity and consistency in the pool," Said Head Coach Sarah Orozco. "We are happy to witness the miracle that God made reality by bringing blessing out of a time like COVID that seemed like a total loss for Hanna and other graduating seniors."

Not only was the day significant due to the emotional value of the senior day, but it was quite the incredible match in the pool as well.

Biola solidified its place as the No. 2 seed in the west division of the Western Water Polo Association with a 4-2 conference mark during its inaugural season. The Eagles went down 2-0 early on, but then slowly righted the ship before Jordan was the one who actually gave Biola its first lead of the game with back-to-back goals.

Jordan buried a backhand from center and then landed a long lob shot to make it 7-5 Biola with 3:32 remaining in the first half. Those tallies came after a crazy time where it went from 2-2 to 3-2 to 3-3 to 4-3 to 4-4 to 5-4.

After that, four unanswered goals came for Biola with Jordan's two sandwiched in between one from Lizzy Birch and another from Veralie Naranjo.

Fresno Pacific dug deep and showed some fight to end the third period, though. The Sunbirds scored three times between the 4:01 and 0:57 marks to tie the match at 8-8.

The rails fell off a little bit for FPU just after they tied things up. They had three exclusions called against them in less than 30 seconds, the last of which was a 5-meter penalty foul. Kourtney Pyle converted the penalty successfully to make it 9-8 at the final quarter break.

The degree of separation did not increase much over the final period as the two teams found themselves still separated by just one goal with 45 seconds left on the clock.

Biola decided to hold the ball back at the goalkeeper and let its entire 35-second shot clock elapse before surrendering possession to FPU and settling in to defend one more time.

It turned out to be a very good plan as the Eagles got a Kourtney Pyle field block as time expired to secure the 11-10 victory. Pyle actually had two field blocks in the final minute against FPU as she continued to play well to close out the regular season.

Pyle led the team offensively with four goals and two assists, taking full advantage of Fresno Pacific's four penalty fouls. Naranjo also had a multi-goal game (2).

The win helped Biola lock in its first-ever regular season at 11-15 (4-2 WWPA). They will face Gannon (9-12, 2-4 WWPA) in the first round of the WWPA Championships next week on Friday.
