Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

First To 10

Biola becomes 10-1 with decisive win over Westmont.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --- Biola Women's Tennis picked up its 10th victory on the 2022 season on Friday as it hit the road and grabbed a 6-1 victory over former Golden State Athletic Conference rival, Westmont. The Eagles are the first team in the PacWest Conference to have 10 wins this year.

The victory is Biola's third-straight win over the Warriors, dating back to its 4-0 victory in La Mirada last February.

"I thought we came out with a lot of energy and focus," said Head Coach David Goodman. "Getting the doubles point gave us a lot of momentum heading into singles, and I couldn't be more proud of how they finished out the match."

The Eagles are definitely turning around the all-time series against Westmont, which has historically been one of the best programs in the NAIA with 29 trips to the national tournament, including a championship in 1982.

This day, the difference between the two sides was significant as only one singles match played more than two sets, despite all doubles battles being relatively close.

The momentum Goodman referred to was earned by Colbeyshae Emery and Mary Brascia who continue to flex their muscle as a top doubles pairing. The Eagles and Warriors split wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles so the point all came down to the two sides' top pairs.

Emery and Brascia managed a 7-5 victory to clinch the doubles point and improve to 9-0 on the season. The 7-5 finish was their second-narrowest margin of victory this year. It took a tiebreaker for them to earn the win against CSULA.

With the doubles point in tow, the Eagles turned their attention to winning at least three of the singles battles. Emery and Brascia once again stood out. The Eagles No. 1 and No. 2 players were the first two complete in singles. Emery won 6-1, 6-0 and Brascia locked it down 6-2, 6-1 to put Biola ahead 3-0.

Amelia Kitts is the one who wrapped the match up early for BU. She was playing the No. 6 spot in what was her first match action of the 2022 season. She picked up a straight-set victory with a 6-4, 6-3 decision. Kitts was 1-0 last season as well, also in the No. 6 flight.

The teams didn't play to clinch, rather they finished out the final three singles matches. Biola would lead by as much as 6-0 as Brooke Fager and Lilly McNeill got wins of their own. McNeill is second to Alexandria Mann now with six singles wins this year. She worked hard for it, too, winning her matchup in a super tiebreaker.

For the first time all season, Mann suffered a setback in singles. She came into today's action 7-0 between play at the No. 3 and No. 4 spot. On Friday, Mann dropped in straight-sets to Francesca Aguirre (1-6; 6-7).

The Eagles move to 10-1 with the victory. They have won seven straight and have a few days off to rest and prepare for three matches next week. The action begins Tuesday at home with a 4:30 p.m. battle against Michigan Tech (0-2).
