The Biola Track and Field squad began competition at the Long Beach Opener with three field events.

LONG BEACH, Calif. --- The opening day of the Long Beach Opener saw Biola participants in the javelin and hammer throw events. The Eagle competitors faced off against a field of teams from each division in the NCAA and community colleges. 

Troy Yarter highlighted the day for BU with a top-10 performance in the javelin event. The junior offered up a throw of 50.02m to place ninth and beat out athletes from USC and Long Beach State.

Biola had three athletes compete in the women's javelin, including Rebeka Preston, Sara Chao and Joley Sproul. Preston led the way for the Eagles, coming in 17th place with a mark of 34.48m. Chao notched a throw of 31.82m to come in slightly behind her teammate and place 20th. Sproul got on the board with a mark of 15.75m, which was good for 48th place.

In the women's hammer throw event, Jada Pierce tallied the best mark for BU. The junior nabbed 32nd place with a throw of 41.30m and was followed by Gigi Fierro in 41st place with a mark of 37.27m.

The BU track and field squad will continue competition at the Long Beach Opener on Saturday, beginning at 10:00 am.
