SAN FRANCISCO --- The 10000 run and 3000 steeplechase kicked off the Mike Finelli Track Classic at San Francisco State on Thursday. The three-day meet featured a huge performance from the Eagles on day one, as Lynette Ruiz won the 10000 while posting a program-record time.

The opening event was the longest race with the women's 10000 starting the meet on Thursday. A field of 16 runners took to the track and finished the race with schools participating ranging from NCAA Division I to the NJCAA.

Lynette Ruiz was the lone competitor for BU and made a statement, winning the event by 30 seconds over the next finisher. The final time for Ruiz was 35:18.47 in her first attempt at the collegiate ranks.

The freshman's first 10000 run was one for the history books as well. The speedy time cruised past the previous school record of 36:14.30, as Ruiz came in nearly a minute faster on Thursday. The performance was also good for a NCAA DII provisional mark.

In the men's 10000, four Eagles took to the track through two sections of competition. Jerry Baltzer finished first for BU, taking 16th place with a personal-best time of 30:51.61. Ryan Sorensen also logged a career-best mark on Thursday, coming in at 31:26.04 for 24th place.

The next BU finisher was Jared Donnel in 33rd. The junior nabbed a time of 31:58.14 in the first section of the finals. Aden Wiebers crossed the finish line at 33:44.95 for 52nd place.

The 3000 steeplechase followed in the schedule, bringing up Grace Catena for the Eagles. The junior tallied a time of 11:22.62, which was good for ninth overall in the event. Catena competed in the first of two sections for the event and landed in seventh in her section.

Charles Bailey and Connor Bramel ran in the men's 3000 steeple and nabbed 19th and 29th, respectively. Bailey came in at 9:46.23 and in fifth in section two, while Bramel posted a personal-best time of 10:14.86 for 15th in the same section.

Action will continue on Friday with the 1500 and 5000 races beginning at 9:50 am at San Francisco State.
