Shutout Success

Biola works a 4-0 win in just 1.5 hours vs. Chaminade on Friday.

LA MIRADA, Calif. — Game one of Friday's doubleheader against Chaminade is probably the quickest game that will be played at Freedom Field this season. The Eagles and Silverswords did battle for just under an hour and a half as Biola earned a 4-0 shutout win.

Biola scored three of its four runs in the fourth inning in support of Paige Austin's 10th complete game of the season. Austin limited the Silverswords to just three hits while striking out seven and using just 85 pitches.

The win for Biola helps them get off to a good start to this four-game set against Chaminade who's now off to an 0-5 start to their trip through the PacWest Conference Southern California pod.

The Eagles took control of the game in their first at-bats as Jennifer Morinishi came around to score after a leadoff bunt single. It was a Brie Nowak double that pushed her home in the first. Nowak would also manage an RBI knock in the fourth inning with a gap single to push home Sicili Brittingham after the Eagles game one designated player led-off with a double.

Brittingham was the first to score in the Eagles' three-run inning. Biola would pick up the other two runs via RBI singles from Madison Blossey and Rilee Ruvalcaba.

With the 4-0 advantage in tow, Paige Austin settled in nicely during innings five, six and seven. The senior stud set down Chaminade in order in each of those final three innings.

The only trouble Austin had throughout the game came in the top of the fourth when Chaminade managed runners on second and third with only one out in the frame. She induced a pop-up and groundout to end the inning and keep the Silverswords off the board.

Biola had seven hits in the game, getting two from Brie Nowak to lead the charge. It was Nowak's fourth multi-hit game of the season and team-best fifth multi-RBI contest.

The win lifts Biola to 14-12 on the season and now 9-8 in PacWest Conference play. The Silverswords fall to 10-9 overall and 8-7 in league play.

The two sides are back at it again at 6 p.m. on Friday.
