Surging to Seven

Biola picked up all seven points on Thursday for a shutout against Metro State.

LA MIRADA --- The No. 10 Eagles made it 14-straight on Thursday, pitching a shutout against the visiting Metro State Roadrunners. BU fought through multiple tough matches and came out on top in each to complete the 7-0 sweep.

Home cooking has been special for the Biola women's tennis team. Biola Tennis Center has played host to 11 of Biola's matches and each has had the same result; a Biola victory.

Thursday brought the team's fifth shutout of 2022, as BU began the day with wins from all three spots in doubles. Ines Diaz and Gaby Carvajal maintained their undefeated season as partners (10-0), securing the doubles point with a win in No. 3 doubles.

Success continued in singles play with Mary Brascia on court No. 2. The redshirt junior tallied her 10th win of 2022, doing so in straight-sets fashion. The first set was a battle for Brascia, going even with her opponent at 6-6. A tiebreaker went the way of the Eagle with a 7-3 margin.

After a three-set triumph from Colbeyshae Emery, Brooke Fager came in next from the No. 5 spot. The Spokane, Washington native cruised in the opening set, 6-0 and then fought through the trenches in set number two. The set went to a tiebreaker at 6-6 and Fager delivered with a convincing 7-1 finish, providing the match-clinching point for the Eagles.

The 4-0 advantage only grew despite the decision already being made for a Biola win. Carvajal finished next and was followed by Alexandria Mann and Lilly McNeill, as each Eagle nabbed a victory and a point in singles play.

In every match, Biola found its groove at the beginning and end, winning every first set and final set.

The Eagles improved to 17-1 on the 2022 campaign with the win and will continue play at Azusa Pacific on Saturday at 10:00 am.
