The Ben Brown Invitational opened up on Friday with a mix of field events.

FULLERTON, Calif. --- The Eagles took part in four field events on Friday at CSU Fullerton. The end-of-week action started things off at the Ben Brown Invitational, which will see a full slate of events on Saturday.

The first event featuring an Eagle was the women's hammer throw. Jada Pierce and Gigi Fierro tossed the hammer for Biola with each landing amongst the top 27. Pierce offered up her best performance as an Eagle with a throw of 43.66m for 17th place. Fierro followed in 27th with a mark of 37.06m.

Biola entered one competitor into each of the men's and women's javelin throws. Sara Chao was at her best, landing a mark of 33.13m for a personal-record. The stellar mark put her in the top-10 at ninth place. Troy Yarter reached No. 11 in the javelin with a throw of 47.89m.

Reanna Maroon and Sophie Abe each recorded collegiate-bests on Friday afternoon in the pole vault. Abe improved on her previous best by .12 for a 3.22m mark, while Maroon inched up by .02 for 3.37m.

Biola track and field will complete competition at the Ben Brown Invitational and take the track at the Occidental Distance Carnival on Saturday.
