Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PASADENA, Calif. --- The Biola women's and men's tennis squads both started the 2022 season, 1-0, after a rout of Caltech. The two teams traveled to the home of the Beavers on Friday for their first countable action of the year.

The women's squad was nearly perfect on the day, winning 8-1 over the hosting Beavers. The men followed up with their own strong showing with a 7-2 victory in the late afternoon window.

Three doubles matches were swept by BU's women to start the competition. Each match finished right in a row from the No. 1 spot to the No. 3 spot in order of finish. The biggest difference came from Brooke Fager and Alexandria Mann, as they won, 8-2.

The momentum stayed in Biola's favor with four straight-set wins in singles play. Mann and Colbeyshae Emery were locked in from the start, posting a 6-0 opening frame. The two polished off their matches quickly, giving up a combined five games in their pair of wins.

Gaby Carvajal and Mary Brascia also pulled in straight-set wins from the No. 6 and No. 2 spots, respectively. Lilly McNeill added the eighth point for Biola on the day with a comeback win on court No. 3. The sophomore overcame a set one loss and responded with a 7-6 edge in set two. McNeill capped off the match with a 10-4 final set for a win in her debut of 2022.

The men posted similar results as the day moved into the evening hours. A stronger focus on doubles play paid off for the Eagles on Friday. The team corralled the doubles point with a triumph on all three courts to open the match.

All four singles triumphs for Biola came in straight-sets fashion. Sebastian Herrera started things off as the No. 1, taking both sets, 6-4. In the No. 2 spot, Alexei Prokopchuk had mirroring sets just like Herrara, defeating his competition, 6-3, in both sets.

Veterans Alex Sedeno and Antonio Rosales Varona also found success in singles play on Friday. Rosales Varona eked out a 7-6 win in the opening set and then capped off the match with a 6-2 rout in set number two. Sedeno pulled out two narrow set wins (7-6, 7-5) to take the match in the No. 6 spot.

The Eagles will hold their home-opener on Saturday, battling Redlands with the men beginning play at 10:00 am and the women starting at 1:00 pm.
