IRVINE, Calif. --- A first half lead was not enough on Saturday afternoon, as the Biola (13-7, 9-4 PacWest) Women's Basketball team couldn't keep its lead against the Concordia Eagles (15-7, 12-4 PacWest). With seven minutes left in the final quarter, CUI turned up the heat to secure the win 57-67.Â
Without the final quarter, BU totals throughout the game were exactly where they needed it to be to keep the lead the whole game. Through those three quarters, Biola scored 43 points and held a one-point advantage over the hosting CUI Eagles.
The BU Eagles finished the day 21-56 on field goals with 11 assists, six steals, and a 36.8 three-point field goal percentage.Â
The BU offense was hot from the jump. In the opening ten minutes of play, the away Eagles put on the board a total of 19 points, to gather an eight point lead. In the second quarter, Biola continued to hold the lead with solid defense. Neither team scored in the final four minutes of the half, leading to a 29-20 BU halftime lead.
On the night,
Laila Walker was the lead scorer, posting 14 points and going 2-3 on three pointers, with a total of three steals, and two assists.
Amiah Simmons was next on the scoreboard with a total of 13 points, while helping her team with eight rebounds.Â
Going into the second half, Concordia had a change of pace. They took advantage of BU's mistakes to chip away with free throws to close the gap one point at a time. CUI impressed offensively, scoring more points in the third than they did in the first half to trim their deficit to one point at 43-42.
The momentum remained in Concordia's favor. Once again, the host squad outscored its first half total with 25 points in the fourth. Biola kept trying to put points on the board but CUI's defense held them to 14 points the final quarter, setting up the 67-57 final.
Biola returns to the court on February 16 at 6:00 pm against Point Loma at Golden Gymnasium. For live stats links and updates check
