Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Ethan McGarvey, Sports Information Director

A Tough Tie

The Eagles equalized the match in the second half but could not find the game-winner on Wednesday.

AZUSA, Calif. --- Biola men's soccer was unable to capitalize on Wednesday night, finishing out a 1-1 draw against APU. The Eagles (4-3-6, 3-0-3 PacWest) battled it out with Azusa Pacific (3-7-3, 1-2-2 PacWest) in a Cornerstone Cup matchup at the Cougar Soccer Complex in Azusa, California.

The second half saw all of the Eagles' momentum on the night. Within the first three minutes of the halftime break, BU found the back of the net.

The run started with Clement Michelet, who led Moose Bonat down the right side outside of the box. Bonat sent the ball to the middle and found the head of the leaping Kristian Colaci. Colaci finished off the spectacular goal, cashing in on the header for his 11th score of 2022.

Colaci continued his impressive play against the Cougars on Wednesday night. Earlier this year, Colaci and the Eagles took down APU in a 3-0 rout. The forward played a crucial role in that contest, piling in two goals, which made his goal on Wednesday three this year against APU.

Biola would go on to outshoot the hosting Cougars 10-2 in the second half. Four of those attempts were on-frame but three were saved by the APU keeper.

The odds heavily favored the Eagles after the 73rd minute, despite the match resting in a 1-1 tie. 27 minutes into the second half Shane Eaton of Azusa Pacific was given his second yellow card of the game, leaving APU with 10 men for the remainder of the contest.

BU made a move in the 81st minute, drawing a foul in the box for a penalty kick attempt. Ethan Hardin stepped up for the prime opportunity but was stuffed on the right side of the goal. Hardin collected the rebound but sent the second shot right back into the gut of the outstretched APU keeper.

A lot of action in the APU end of the field looked great for BU but ultimately the visitors ran out of time for the 1-1 draw.

Four Eagles logged at least three shots and one shot on-goal, including Colaci, Hardin, Moritz Riegel and Aidan Hill.

Biola will return to the pitch on Saturday with a home bout against Hawaii Hilo at 7:00 pm. Biola will celebrate the 20th-anniversary of its 2002 Golden State Athletic Conference championship during Saturday's match. The team and head coach Bryan Kuderman will be back and recognized at halftime of the men's game.
