No. 7 APU Downs Biola

A trio of goals from the seventh-ranked Cougars was enough to overcome BU on Tuesday night.

AZUSA, Calif. --- Biola (3-3-0) took on tough competition on Tuesday night, facing off against No. 7 Azusa Pacific (4-1-1) in a road matchup. The contest did not count towards either team's conference record, as BU fell by a 3-1 final margin to the Cougars.

The 0-0 tie to start the match did not last very long, as APU was on the attack from the opening kickoff. The hosting Cougars tallied the first score just 1:08 into the contest. A cross from APU found the foot of a forward in front of the goal for a quick tap-in.

Adam Jones responded aggressively, logging three shots through a span of seven minutes. The BU squad totaled six shots in the first half with none landing on-goal.

APU added to its lead in the 40th minute, creating a 2-0 lead for the host team heading into the halftime break. The score resulted from a deflected shot that, fortunately for APU, bounced right to Elisha Burbridge who poked it into the back of the net.

The second half primarily belonged to the Cougars, who held BU without a shot until the 86th minute. The Eagles took advantage of their opportunity late in the match, avoiding the shutout with two shots, resulting in one goal.

The attack started at midfield with solid passing between the Biola players. Clement Michelet pushed the ball into the attacking third with a pass to Moose Bonat at the top of the box. The freshman forward turned and gave a great ball to a sprinting Jonathan Serrano along the left side.

Serrano sent the ball towards the goal and nailed the left post. The rebound bounced towards the middle and to the waiting feet of Oscar Rubalcava, who used his left foot to tack on the score for BU.

Rubalcava notched his second goal of the season in the final minutes on Tuesday. The midfielder leads the team with the two tallies, scoring on his only two shots this year.

Jake You and Kirk Wilson saw their first action in a Biola uniform on Tuesday. The duo combined for 23 minutes played in the evening contest.

Biola will look to get back on track on Saturday with another non-conference competition against Concordia at 7:00 pm at Al Barbour Field.
