Three Eagles log double-doubles as Biola earns a five-set victory over Western Oregon, 3-2.

September 11, 2021

Box Score SEATTLE, Wash. --- Biola Volleyball (4-3) pulled off a thrilling 3-2 (25-19, 22-25, 25,17, 20-25, 15-6) win against Western Oregon (2-5) on Saturday afternoon at the SPU-CWU Invitational in Seattle, Washington.

The back-and-forth affair saw the Eagles and Wolves traded sets throughout the match.

Dominique Kirton continued to shine in her home state as the Mill Creek, Washington native recorded a career-high 22 kills on 61 attempts, just 25 miles south of her hometown. Kirton's 22 kills double her 2020-21 best of 11 kills in a five-set match against Concordia Irvine.

For the first time in her collegiate career Kirton is playing in front of her family and friends, including her sister Joclyn, a Biola Volleyball alumnus and one of her biggest role models. "It's so fun to be in my hometown and be supported by my family here, they haven't seen me play since I was in high school so I am so thankful to be home and have some of my role models all in the same place," said Kirton.

Kirton added 13 digs to her line to secure her first double-double of the season after coming just two kills short of the feat against Seattle Pacific in the opening match of the tournament.

While Kirton logged a career game she credited her teammates and coaching staff for her recent success. "Everyone is always putting me in a place to succeed and I am so grateful for our support system," said Kirton. "Our setters and defenders always set me up in the best way and it's all thanks to their work and communication that I was able to perform out there today."

Abby Brewster and Vaness Garcia joined the double-double party as Brewster led the team with 28 assists while adding 14 digs. Garcia chipped in with 14 assists and 13 digs while Marissa Price added 12 assists of her own.

Abigail Copeland continued to be a force for the Eagles at the net, tying her career-high of 13 kills, while also adding 3 blocks. Madison Beebe and Dani Bryant each reached double-digit kills with 10 apiece.

Sami Hover added 35 more digs as she continues to close in on 2,000 career digs. The graduate student did not record a receiving error and added 8 assists to her line.

For the second-straight match, Biola's hitters recorded a hitting percentage over .200 and set a new season-best of .238, .006 better than its previous best of .232 against West Texas A&M.

The Eagles are back in action Saturday evening as they take on Central Washington at 5 P.M. to close out their contests in the Pacific Northwest.
