Austin Dominates Again

BU pitcher Paige Austin logged her second win of the day, as Biola swept Azusa Pacific on Saturday.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Paige Austin continued her incredible 2021 campaign, adding a second win on Saturday. The Eagles (17-11, 12-8 PacWest) picked up the sweep with a 2-0 game two victory over the visitors from Azusa Pacific (17-13, 6-12 PacWest).

Two games and two starts made for an impressive day for Austin. The senior did not skip a beat between game one and game two, holding a no-hitter through 3.2 innings.

Austin kept firing on all cylinders, posting seven scoreless frames for her third shutout this season and the 15th of her career. In the contest, the pitcher collected four strikeouts, increasing her season total to a PacWest-best 115.

Ruth Munoz was the offense for BU in the opening frame. The shortstop was hit by a pitch, before nabbing second and third with her 11th and 12th steals of the season. Madison Blossey laid down a great suicide-squeeze bunt, scoring Munoz while also reaching first safely.

Rilee Ruvalcaba notched back-to-back multi-hit efforts on Saturday, going 2-3 in game two. The second baseman also extended BU's lead to 2-0 in the fourth inning with an RBI single to right field.

Kayla Neff and Brie Nowak set up Ruvalcaba for the crucial run-producing hit with two singles to start the inning. Nowak's poke to right center gave pinch runner Maddie Riley enough time to reach third base, putting her in perfect position to score on Ruvalcaba's single.

Austin nabbed her ninth win of the year for a 9-5 overall record, while giving up three total hits through seven innings. Abie Nowak offered a strong defensive effort in support of the standout hurler, snagging a pop fly with a full extension dive in front of first base.

Biola retook control of the PacWest SoCal pod with the Saturday sweep and will look to maintain the top position when they host Concordia in their next competition on Friday.
