Make it Eight Straight

Biola women’s tennis landed its eighth-straight win on Tuesday, defeating Metro State 5-2.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The Eagles fought hard for a 5-2 victory over Metro State at the Biola Tennis Center on Tuesday. BU picked up five-of-six singles wins to tally its eighth-straight triumph dating back to February 27.

The Roadrunners were the team to jump out front first, notching a win in all three doubles contests. The 1-0 advantage from MSU marked the end of a nine match streak of winning the doubles point for the Eagles.

"Today Metro was really good in the doubles and they swept us which was a credit to them," said head coach David Goodman. "I was really proud of how we responded in the singles and got fired up and hung in there to end up taking five of the six singles matches."

The Tuesday matchup quickly turned around for BU with a perfect match from Colbeyshae Emery. Emery refused to give up one game through two sets, posting a 6-0, 6-0 singles victory. The comfortable rout moved the freshman's season record to an impressive 9-1.

Mary Brascia added another point for Biola with her ninth-straight singles win. Brascia cruised in set number one, 6-1, before putting away her opponent in the second set, 6-4.

With two matches left to be played, Biola held a 3-2 lead over Metro State.

Having won the first set of her match, Ines Diaz was in prime position to provide the match-clinching point for BU. The sophomore found success in the second set, giving Biola the victory. Diaz picked up her seventh win of the season, as she boasts a 7-1 record in 2021.

"To be able to play really strong in the singles against a solid opponent is a good sign," added Goodman.

BU (10-2) will look to extend its winning streak again on Thursday when they take on Westmont in a road matchup.
