Eagles Perfect on the Day

Biola Women’s Tennis blanks Cal Lutheran, drop only one set to the Regals.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- It was a beautiful day at the Biola Tennis Center in sunny Southern California as the Eagles hosted the NCAA DIII Cal Lutheran Regals. It was a perfect day for tennis, and perfect it was as the Eagles blanked Cal Lutheran 7-0 for their sixth-consecutive victory this season.

The Eagles opened up the day sweeping all three of their double matches. Brook Fager and Lilly McNeill made quick work of their opponents, blanking them 6-0 for their ninth doubles win of the season.

On court two, Gaby Carvajal and Amelia Kitts were in control the entire match as they won 6-2. Ines Diaz and Madison Swaney found themselves back 4-2 early on but battled their way to a 6-4 victory, giving BU the clean doubles sweep.

The Eagles followed up their doubles domination and continued to make their presence known against the Regals in singles action. BU opened up with a perfect 6 of 6 first set wins against Cal Lutheran.

Colbyshea Emery earned the first singles win for BU taking down Henna Levanen with mirroring scores of 6-1.

Both McNeill and Diaz made quick work of their opponents, with each only allowing one game and finishing 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-0 respectively. The singles point from Diaz gave the Eagles their fourth and game-clinching point of the day.

The BU momentum carried through the final match, as Swaney pulled off a three-set victory. The junior survived a tie-breaker, defeating Rubino Copano 10-5.

"We are really confident overall and we feel like every match we are improving and getting better," said Head Coach David Goodman.

Biola scored their eighth win of the season on Saturday and will return to the Biola Tennis Center for its next contest on Tuesday against Western New Mexico.
