Box Score POINT LOMA, Calif. --- After a thrilling overtime win on Friday night that saw the Eagles close the door on the Sea Lions, Biola looked to sweep the two-game series from Point Loma Saturday afternoon.
That was not the case as the Eagles could not overcome a strong start from the Sea Lions to open the game. PLNU ended up winning this one by a 91-75 final score.
"We had a very slow start, and against a top team like Point Loma it is difficult when we have to play catch-up all game," said Head Coach
Alan Nakamura. "But true to the character of the young ladies we have on this team, we gave a great effort until the end. An old coach saying is, 'Today we are either going to win, or we are going to learn a lot. Today we learned a lot!"
Biola couldn't quite put it together on offense or defense early on, they fell behind Point Loma early with a 10-point deficit. Madi Chang tallied the first points of the game, she sank a deep three to put the Eagles on the board. Chang would finish the day with 13 points, perfect from the floor shooting 4-4 from the field, 3-3 behind the arc and 2-2 at the foul line.
Stephanie Lee continued to have a hot hand for the Eagles as she opened her scoring with a three-pointer in the first quarter. Lee wouldn't quite match her totals from last night's contest, but she finished as the team's leading scorer with 15 points.
Canada native, Abigail Laberge, added 13 points of her own. Laberge was 3-4 from the field and nearly perfect from the foul line sinking seven of eight attempts.
Coach Nakamura was proud of the hard work from Chang and Laberge. "It was exciting to see
Madi Chang and
Abigail Laberge come through for the team when we were down! They are humble, team-first, workers, and you can see how they wanted to lift the team through their efforts at both ends of the floor!"
Turnovers continued to plague the Eagles as BU coughed up the ball 22 times in this one. No. 20 Point Loma seized the opportunity and scored 24 points off the Eagles' turnovers. The Sea Lions were able to bounce back from their overtime loss last night and prove why they are a top-20 team in the nation.
Biola wrapped up their contests with Point Loma, taking one of four games from the PacWest Southern California pod leaders. The Eagles will return to action against Concordia Irvine for their final two games of the season. Biola will host Concordia Irvine on Feb. 26 and travel to Irvine to close out the season next Saturday.
