Eagles Roll

An 81-57 final score favored Biola on Saturday night in a matchup against La Sierra.

LA MIRADA --- The BU women's basketball squad made it a true double feature on Saturday, completing the second 20-point plus victory for Biola, following a big win from Biola's men's basketball team. The Eagles were dominant in the late game, defeating La Sierra by an 81-57 final score.

Alan Nakamura's squad came out and took care of business in the weekend bout. The painted area was prime real estate for the Eagles, as they nearly doubled their opponent's total with 34 points near the hoop. "We wanted to get the ball to the middle, see the defense react to us and find what was open," said BU forward Madi Chang.

A tight battle carried through the first quarter and leaked into the first few minutes of the second. Jordan Rabe sparked a change in pace and led a huge rally in the second quarter, opening up a 14-point lead that would carry into halftime. The 6-1 forward notched eight points in the 4:56 stretch, helping the Eagles tally a 14-2 run.

The BU defense was suffocating throughout the first two quarters, forcing 13 turnovers and collecting nine steals. The team's length and aggressiveness disrupted the LSU passing and turned it into 10 fastbreak points for Biola. Aysia Johnson was at the point of attack for the defense, leading the way with five takeaways in the contest.

Three Eagles tallied multiple three-pointers in the first half with long balls accounting for half of the team's field goals. Efficiency matched volume, as BU converted at a 47.1 percent rate from beyond in the arc.

The third quarter held more fortune and favor for the hosting Eagles. BU piled it on, outscoring the visitors, 22-10, in the stanza. LSU shot just 18 percent from the floor with three made field goals. On the flip side, Biola was 8-14 from the field for a 57.1 field goal percentage.

The largest lead for BU came in the final minutes with the BU offense refusing to slow down. The BU advantage peaked at 29 points after a three-pointer from Chang. On the night, the junior posted 11 points, while going 3-5 from long range, boosting her season average to 52.6 percent from three-point land.  "I think my teammate's really have a lot of confidence in me and that carries over into my shot," commented Chang.

Once again, Amiah Simmons paced Biola in the scoring column, collecting her third-straight 20-point effort.

Rabe and Stephanie Lee also reached double figures, nabbing 12 points each. Four three-pointers accounted for all 12 points for Lee, while Rabe added nine boards to her nice scoring performance.

Natasa Radovic was a force to be reckoned with on Saturday. The 5-9 guard made an impact everywhere, logging seven rebounds, six assists, two points and one block.

Conference play is what's next for Biola (4-2), as it takes on Fresno Pacific (3-2) at home on Thursday at 5:30 pm.
