Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Ethan McGarvey, Sports Information Director

Home Sweet Home

Biola’s home opener went to plan on Saturday in a 28-point triumph.

LA MIRADA --- Biola's defense reigned supreme on Saturday night inside Chase Gymnasium. The Eagles held CSU San Bernardino to 29.7 percent shooting on the way to a 79-51 victory in the team's home opener.

For the first time since the 2019-2020 season, the Biola women's basketball team was able to play in front of its home fans. That was not lost on the players, "It was pretty awesome and fun to see our friends and family here!" said Jordan Rabe. "There was just a lot more energy in the gym, which was awesome."

The Biola defense was tenacious, giving the Yotes fits throughout the night. The Eagles used their length in the passing lanes to disrupt the Yotes' offense. The suffocating press and well-timed swipes led to 18 visitor turnovers and 12 BU steals.

Four Eagles nabbed multiple steals on the night, including Madi Chang and Aysia Johnson who tied for the team high with three each. The 12 total steals for the team outpaced CSUSB by nine in the game.

BU was very effective inside the arc offensively, collecting 33 field goals and converting at a 52.4 percent rate. The leader of efficiency for Biola was Amiah Simmons, who compiled 22 points off the bench. The freshman went 8-9 from the floor and 5-5 from the charity stripe, while logging 19 minutes on the court. Simmons also led the team in rebounds with seven and recorded a pair of assists and steals.

Chang helped put the game out of reach in the final stanza. Three makes from downtown in a four minute stretch helped Biola increase its lead from 15 to 24 with five minutes remaining in the contest. The good times kept rolling, as the Eagles posted their biggest lead of 33 points later in the fourth, before settling in for the 79-51 final margin.

A slow first quarter turned into a game-changing second, as Biola grabbed control of the competition with a 21-9 second quarter scoreline. The final five minutes of the period favored the host squad 10-1, as Biola held the Yotes scoreless for over four minutes.

Rabe showed off her talents on Saturday, as the team's second-leading scorer with 16 points. The forward notched a 75.0 field goal percentage and added six rebounds in 27 minutes of action.

Biola improved to 3-1 with the comfortable victory and will now set their sights on a rematch with CSU Los Angeles at home on Tuesday at 5:00 pm.
