Signing announcement for Chance Campbell

Campbell Catches Coaches’ Eye

Catcher Chance Campbell earned a spot on the Eagles’ roster after impressing at a January prospect camp.

May 19, 2020

CALABASAS, Calif. --- Chance Campbell garnered an invitation to Biola Baseball's prospect camp this past January and made the most of his opportunity in front of the Eagles coaching staff.

The catcher from Calabasas High displayed solid receiving skills, hit a triple during the live-game portion of the camp, and ultimately showed the kind of potential Head Coach Jeff Calhoon was looking to add to his catching corps:

"Chance is a physical catcher that has had success at the high school level. We believe he adds depth to that position and allows for us to create competition for the years to come," said Coach Calhoon. "He is a solid young man and I am looking forward to working with Chance behind the plate and continuing to have him develop as a well-rounded catcher."

Campbell is one of four incoming baseball recruits who attended prospect camps at Eagles Diamond over the past year and will come to Biola after three years on the Calabasas varsity squad. He was part of a Coyotes team that won 20 games and advanced to the CIF Southern Section Quarterfinals in 2018 before eventually earning offensive team MVP honors and serving as a team captain.

His eagerness to be around the game whenever he can is evidenced by his three summers of travel ball with PBA and community service with the Champions baseball program for children with special needs. It also turns out Campbell felt right at home with the Eagles because he saw an identical level of passion from the current members of Biola's baseball program:

"I was invited to a camp at Biola for baseball and I loved the environment and the players I was surrounded by," said Campbell. "They were such a tight group and I wanted to make this my family for the next four years becauseI felt like I fit right in with the players I talked to."

Chance Campbell will major in business administration at Biola and hopes to eventually have a career in business consulting. He'll join his new teammates this coming fall as Biola Baseball prepares for a renewed run at an NCAA West Regional berth in 2021.

More information on the incoming 2020-21 class that will join Campbell at Biola can be found on the Committed Athletes page.
