Refreshing Change of Pace

Biola Men’s Tennis delivered its second shutout of the year on Monday, defeating Saint Katherine 4-0.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Men's Tennis has had a match quite like this on over a month. No. 1 Doubles was left unfinished, Andres Meneses and Alexei Prokopchuk didn't record wins at the Biola Tennis Center. But that was just fine for Monday as the Eagles easily took care of visiting University of Saint Katherine, 4-0.

Head Coach David Goodman's men's team has now won five of its last six matches to improve to 7-4 on the season and is now on a three-match winning streak at home as it heads into a stretch of 10 of its next 11 contests at the Biola Tennis Center.

The one lineup adjustment Coach Goodman made on Monday ended of working out very well for Biola in doubles. The Eagles slid Logan Blair to the No. 3 line to play alongside Caleb Bloemhof and the duo went onto clinch the doubles point for the home team. Bloemhof, in particular, brought a big first serve and played with a strong power game in his first action of the season.

As for Blair, the doubles win was his first of the season without usual partner Andres Meneses. And it was the start of the fourth personal sweep of the season for the senior who won both his doubles and singles matches for the first time since February 21.

Blair actually clinched the match for the Eagles with his 6-2, 6-1 singles win on court two. The Eagles took the first set on all six singles courts, but Derek James double-bageled his opponent and Edwyn Ramos only dropped a single game in his match to set the other four courts on a race to clinch.

Blair sealed his win by getting two double-flips on the final two changeovers of his match and unfortunately finished just fast enough to stop Andres Meneses' match on court five a point or two short of another win for Meneses.

Seniors Ramos and Blair both recorded their fifth singles wins of the year on Monday while James moved within one win of Prokopchuk for the team-lead (nine singles wins).

Biola will host soon-to-be PacWest peer Colorado Mesa at the Biola Tennis Center this coming Monday and will renew an exciting rivalry with CMU. Over the past two years, Colorado Mesa has won its meetings with Biola by scores of 5-4 in 2018 and 4-3 after a long and dramatic tiebreaker in 2019. Monday's dual is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
