LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Women's Basketball is officially qualified for its first PacWest tournament after getting a win and a few helpful losses from around the conference last week. Now Head Coach
Alan Nakamura's team can turn its attention to goals that are a bit more ambitious. The Eagles would like nothing more than to go into their first conference tournament clicking on all cylinders with a three-game win streak and playing from the No. 3 seed. That possibility is in Biola's grasp, but only if they are able to win all three games to conclude the regular season.Â

BIOLA (16-9, 12-7Â PacWest) vs Holy Names (1-17, 1-21 PacWest) on Saturday February 22 at 12 p.m.\\ Live Stats \\ Live Video
The Eagles had one of their best shooting games of the season during their first meeting with Holy Names just over two weeks ago. The team shot over 50 percent for the third time this season and went 10-for-11 at the free throw line while five women scored in double figures for Biola. Tatum Brimley and Jelissa Puckett both had efficient shooting performances and drained three three-pointers each to combine for 26 points. Jazz Benn also filled up the stat sheet with 11 points, six boards and five assists, using that game as a springboard to average over 14 points and seven rebounds per game over the past two weeks.
But the story of the 81-54 win in Oakland was the incredible run from freshman Madi Chang and Stephanie Lee to carry Biola to its' big lead. Chang and Lee made all eight shots attempt the two accounted for in the first half and combined for 31 points between them by the time the final buzzer sounded. Lee would finish as the team's highest scorer for the fourth time this season. But Chang paced the Eagles with 11 first-half points on the way to a career-high 15. The double figure scoring effort was part of four-straight games with that achievement for Chang, and she'll look to return to that form on Saturday.Â
Holy Names has gone 0-3 with losses to Concordia, Hawaii Hilo and Academy of Art since its last meeting with Biola. Gernijah Martin has averaged 11.3 points per game in that stretch, but the Hawks have been outscored 66-to-26 in the first quarter over those games. Biola Women's Basketball will carry an 8-1 all-time record and an eight-game win streak into this matchup with HNU.
BIOLA (16-9, 12-7Â PacWest) at Fresno Pacific (15-11, 12-8 PacWest) on Monday February 24 at 5:30 p.m. \\ Live Stats \\ Live Video
It was over two months ago that Biola Women's Basketball hosted Fresno Pacific in what turned out to be a tight 77-73 win for the Eagles. Tatum Brimley led the Eagles with 21 points, including 13 in the second half, and Biola needed everything Brimley provided as the Sunbirds charged back in the second half. The Eagles built as much as a 16-point lead midway through the third quarter but Fresno Pacific brought the game within three points multiple times in the final two minutes as the teams combined for 100 points in the second half.Â
With all that scoring, the key to Biola's win over Fresno Pacific was great defense around the perimeter in the first half. The Eagles guards prevented the Sunbirds from making any three-pointers during the first half and limited FPU to just seven field goals overall in the first 20 minutes. That helped Biola break its three-game losing streak to the Sunbirds since becoming an NCAA DII program. Monday's visit to Fresno will be the Eagles second trip to the FPU Special Events Center since joining the PacWest, but they had won three-straight in Fresno in the early 2010's when the Sunbirds were still in the GSAC.
FPU has two winning averaging 16 points per game or more in the 16 contests it has played since losing to Biola. Forward Cassie Pisik has posted six double doubles in that span and two games with 30 points or more, including 32 against Chaminade this past Monday. Guard Jessica Malazarte is also coming off a 33 points in a big road win on February 15 at Point Loma and has scored in double figures 13 times since scoring 12 on 4-for-14 shooting at Biola.Â
BIOLA (16-9, 12-7Â PacWest) vs Concordia (14-9, 12-6 PacWest) on Thursday February 27 at 5:30 p.m.\\ Live Stats \\ Live Video
Thursday's senior night matchup against could have major importance for the landscape of the PacWest tournament if Biola is able to come into the game with two more wins on its ledger. If all goes according to the Eagles' hopes, they'll be playing Concordia for the right to be the No. 3 seed going into the conference championship and thereby face the No. 6 seed in the opening round on March 5. CUI has stuck with the same seven-player rotation that defeated Biola 63-57 in Irvine on January 16, and it's worked well for the most part as Concordia has gone 6-4 since the win over Head Coach Alan Nakamura's group. Four women in Concordia's customary starting five are averaging 10 points a game or more, but the question one has to wonder about this late in the season is the fatigue level of CUI's core players this late in the season.
Concordia hit a bump in the road last Saturday when they lost to a 9-15 Dominican team in overtime and have had to play a number of high-pressure games against Hawaii Pacific and Point Loma in recent weeks. But on the other side of the coin, CUI has won six of its last seven road games with its small-rotation philosophy.Â
