LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Women's Basketball finally gets to be on the comfortable side of its matchups this week. The Eagles had to face the challenge of a Thursday/Saturday two game road trip to the Bay Area last week and were on another long trip away from home when they last played Chaminade and Hawaii Pacific. But this week they finally get to play anticipated rematches in Chase Gym, where they have played a reliable brand of high-caliber basketball this season.Â
Biola is the only PacWest team other than first place Hawaii Pacific to have one home loss or fewer in conference play as it starts it week this Thursday. Tatum Brimley, Aysia Johnson and Stephanie Lee are all averaging 11 points per game or more during Biola's home PacWest games. And as a team, the Eagles have a plus-10 scoring margin in those contests and outscore their opponents 140 to 76 in the second quarter.Â
Every week is massively important for Head Coach Alan Nakamura's group these days as they push toward a PacWest tournament birth and press for as high a seed as they can possibly manage. Step one to achieving those goals is continuing the high-caliber play the Eagles have had at home since four of their final five regular season games will be held in Chase Gym.Â

BIOLA (15-8, 11-6 PacWest) vs Chaminade (4-19, 4-13 PacWest) on Thursday February 13 at 5:30 p.m.\\ Live Stats \\ Live Video
The Eagles did a great job executing their game plan against Chaminade during the teams' first meeting in January. Kayla Macedo scored a career-high 14 points as a substitute and Biola outscored the Silverswords by 25 points and led for the final 38 minutes of the contest. Nakamura's group made 11 three-pointers in the contest and it was really a team effort on offense defined by trust in the big win. Seven different women made a field goal for Biola in the first quarter before the Eagles went on a 24-to-4 run in the third quarter that put the game out of reach for Chaminade.
One always has to expect Silverswords' guard Destiny Castro to have a big scoring night. Castro ranks second in the PacWest with 19 points per game and is second all-time in scoring among all women's basketball players based at schools in Hawaii. So fittingly, Castro is averaging over 22 ppg in the 11 games since the 'Swords and Eagles met. But none of her teammates are averaging over 7.3 points per game, so Chaminade is on a five-game losing streak as it comes to Biola and is 0-4 on the road. Nakamura's group still needs to play hard from the start though, as Chaminade's best scoring quarter in its last 11 games is the fourth quarter.Â
Biola Women's Basketball is 4-0 all-time against Chaminade and has scored 66 points or more in all four meetings.Â
BIOLA (15-8, 11-6 PacWest) vs No. 5/7 Hawaii Pacific (21-1, 16-0 PacWest) on Saturday February 15 at 1 p.m. \\ Live Stats \\ Live Video
To date, the closest the Sharks have come to losing a PacWest game was against the Eagles during Biola's Hawaii trip at the beginning of the calendar year. Led by Tatum Brimley's 12 second-half points and Stephanie Lee's nine, Biola Women's Basketball outscored the Sharks 33-22 in the second half and held the lead for the majority of the fourth quarter after Lee hit a clutch three-pointer. Senior point guard Jelissa Puckett also played all 20 minutes of the second half and pulled down nine rebounds to finish with a season-high 12 boards. But none of the Eagles could help the long rebound that Hawaii Pacific converted into a buzzer-beating three-pointer. The Sharks' first desperation shot was tapped far away from the key and toward the elbow where Starr Rivera was waiting. One has to expect that the Eagles circled this rematch with the Sharks as soon as the upset win was taken out from under them. They just need to be prepared to face an HPU team that has been rolling since that scare against Biola.
Hawaii Pacific is actually a better scoring team on the road (87.8 points per game) than it is at home and HPU has already made two trips to California already this year. Five women average 9.9 points or more on the road and the Sharks have shown a reliable ability to pull ahead early in the 11 games they've played since facing Biola. But the jet lag and scheduling is always a reality when facing teams from Hawaii. Hawaii Pacific had to bring everything it had for a big game at Azusa Pacific on Monday and plays Concordia on Wednesday before coming to Chase Gym.Â
